How To Calculate Electricity Bill

Nowadays, we all will hear word unit while calculating electricity bill and some people do not know about how the electricity bill is generated, in this article I will clear all your doubts related to cost per unit, how electricity bill is generated and unit in energy meter.

What Is Cost Per Unit?

The cost per unit depends upon the number of units you have consumed per month. For example, if your monthly unit is 30 then the cost per unit will be around 3 to 3.25 rupees and if your monthly unit is 60 then your cost per unit will be around 4.40 to 4.60 rupees. It also depends upon where you are staying i.e., in rural or urban, the cost for urban people is somewhat more and whereas the cost for rural people is somewhat less than urban people. It also depends upon types of consumers domestic, industrial or agricultural, etc.

Now I will show you the cost for different units (Domestic Consumers)

For Urban Areas

  • 01. For monthly up to 30 units – 3.25 rupees.
  • 02. For monthly up to 31 to 100 units – 4.70 rupees.
  • 03. For monthly up to 101 to 200 units – 6.25 rupees.
  • 04. For monthly above 200 units – 7.30 rupees.

For Rural Areas

  • 01. For monthly up to 30 units – 3.15 rupees.
  • 02. For monthly up to 31 to 100 units – 4.40 rupees.
  • 03. For monthly up to 101 to 200 units – 5.95 rupees.
  • 04. For monthly above 200 units – 6.80 rupees.

This is the cost per unit in India. In India, cost also varies because the different state has different prices.

What Is Unit In Energy Meter?

The unit is a very important thing while calculating the electricity bill based on the number of units you consume electricity bill is generated.

Suppose if you consume 1000 watt per hour then it is called one unit. If you connect a load of 100 watts for 10 hours (100 * 10 hrs = 1KWh) then it will become one unit. Suppose you are consuming daily one unit i.e., 1KWh then multiply units per day * a number of days in a month, you will get how many units you have consumed per month.

It is so easy that in how many hours you consume 1000 watts that are called one unit.

How Electricity Bill Is Calculated?

The electricity bill is generated based on the load and the units you consume per month.

suppose if units generated are less than 30 assume 25 units per month, multiply 25 * 3.15 rupees it will give you electricity bill.

Suppose if you are consuming 100 units per month, multiply 100 * 4.40 rupees it will give you electricity bill.

If you are consuming more than 200 units per month, multiply 200 * 7.30 rupees it will give you an electricity bill.

In this way, only the electricity bill is generated.

By seeing the above points i.e., cost per unit, you can calculate the electricity bill for a different unit.

so guys nowadays everyone should know about how the electricity bill is generated, what is the cost per unit, which will help you all in many ways. In many interviews, this question is asked for electrical engineers.
