We all use mosquito bat nowadays for killing mosquitoes, have you ever thought about how mosquito bat works or how mosquito will be killed when mosquito goes inside the net, have you ever thought, don’t worry I will discuss in detail.

The main parts of mosquito bats are:

01. AC capacitor

02. Full bridge rectifier

03. Rechargeable battery

04. Inverter

05. Oscillator

06. Step-up transformer

07. Net or Grid

01. AC capacitor – When ac supply is given to the mosquito bat for charging purposes, voltage is step-down by AC capacitor, no transformer is used to step-down the voltage only a capacitor is used.

Now you will think about how a capacitor can step down the voltage? ok, let’s discuss.

There are some capacitors if you connect those capacitors in series with the phase wire, you will get a step-down voltage, the only thing is you must select the proper range of capacitors. Look at the below table.

AC capacitor value in mosquito bat

Capacitor Reactance is given by

X =  1/2pifc

Select the capacitance of any capacitor and apply it to calculate reactance.

Calculate the current in the circuit

I = V/X

Guys see the below figure, how a capacitor is connected.

Full bridge rectifier

02. Full bridge rectifier

Once the voltage is step-down, then it is fed to a full bridge rectifier, the purpose of the full-bridge rectifier is to convert energy from ac to dc as shown in the above figure.

03. Rechargeable battery

The output of the bridge rectifier is fed to the rechargeable battery, where the energy is stored in the battery. The battery used in the mosquito bat is a lead-acid type battery of 4V, 500mA.

04. Inverter (Dc to AC Converter)

The inverter converts the energy present in the battery from dc to ac, ac of low voltage.

05. Oscillator

An oscillator of transistor biased is used to generate pulses. The transistor switches off and on rapidly to generate falling and rising voltage for the transformer to step up.

06. Step-up transformer

The output of the inverter is fed to the step-up transformer, which step-up the low voltage to high voltage, low current. The main purpose of the transformer is to step-up voltage and to keep the value of the current low.

07. Net or Mesh

Mosquito bat

A high voltage and low current are passed to the net, the grid has a total of three nets, one inner and two outer net, the inner net is phase(consider as +) and outer nets are neutral (consider as -).

Now tells discuss how mosquitoes will get the shock. It is so simple when mosquito enters the grid or not, if it touches both the inner net and outer net, then a closed circuit will form through the mosquito body or circuit gets completed through the mosquito body, so in this way, the mosquito gets the shock and they die. This is how the mosquito bat works.
