IoT Or Internet Of Things

IoT (Internet Of Things) Technology can be utilized in every walks of life. It can be employed in Businesses, Homes, Communication, Hospitals, Industries, In Security systems, Transportation, and so on.

The IoT is a network of internet-linked devices (eg: vehicles, equipment, appliances, gadgets) that can collect and share data without human intervention. IoT is a platform in which embedded devices are connected to the internet so that the devices can interact with each other and data can be exchanged between the devices. It allows the embedded devices to interact with each other, just like humans do.

IoT gives valuable data through analysis, testing, and real-time field data. The exchanging of data helps us to command various devices and help devices to do various tasks efficiently. IoT devices collect information from various sources and send it to a central data server, where the information is processed, analyzed, examined, and filtered. Later this can be used to make tasks easier to perform.

The future of IoT is more interesting, where billions of things will be talking to each other, and human intervention will become the least. Internet of Things is building life-changing conditions in our lives, both in a professional and personal capacity. The IoT allows an unprecedented degree of control and efficiency in every domain.

IoT technology iterates, updates, and keeps building itself regularly. Its networks don’t arrive pre-assembled, they develop over time, depending upon the experience. The IoT has amalgamated hardware and software to the internet to build a smarter world.

Applications Of IoT Or Internet Of Things

01. IoT for Individuals: One can use IoT devices in the form of

a. Smart homes, (eg: the applications we use in everyday life, such as TV, light switches, refrigerator, AC, heater, door locks, vault lock, locking/unlocking the doors, security systems, and many more can be controlled by IoT), and

b. Wearable devices (such as Fitbit, health monitors, smartphones, watches, etc.) to make life easier. These devices enhance entertainment, network connectivity, health, and fitness.

02. IoT in Healthcare:

a. Wearable IoT devices allow hospitals to monitor their patient’s health, to get real-time information that could save lives.

b. Smart beds help the staff be notified.

c. Installing IoT sensors on critical equipment results in increased safety or security of the equipment, which can save lives.

d. It is utilized in heart rate monitors, smartwatches, glucose monitoring for diabetes patients.

03. IoT in Manufacturing:

a. It can be involved in factory digitization, safety, and security, inventory management, quality control, packaging, logistics, and supply chain optimization.

b. RFID and GPS technology can support a business track a product from its origin to its destination. The entire supply chain from start to end can be optimized. These sensors can collect information on travel time, product condition, and environmental conditions that the product was subjected to.

c. Sensors attached to factory equipment can help identify bottlenecks in the production line, and thus decreasing waste of time.

d. One can also track the performance of the device, and predict when the machine needs maintenance, to prevent breakdowns.

04. IoT in Retail:

a. IoT technology can be utilized online and in-store shopping. It helps in the warehouse, robotics, and supply chain, stock management, purchase management.

b. IoT can help analyze mall traffic so that stores inside the malls can make the required arrangements to improve the customer’s shopping experience while decreasing overhead.

c. IoT benefits retailers target customers based upon past purchases. Depending upon the data provided through IoT, retailers can make a personalized promotion for their loyal customers.

05. IoT in Transportation

a. IoT technology is employed in self-driving cars.

b. The GPS, which, another example of IoT, is employed to help transportation companies for faster and more efficient routes, thereby speeding up delivery times.

c. City planners can also utilize the data to know traffic patterns, parking space demand, and road construction and maintenance.

06. IoT in Agriculture

a. To improve yield by controlling the climatic conditions, smart irrigation, soil moisture, nutrients, fertilizer system, reducing wastage by optimizing the limited resources. It can revolutionize the formers’ work.

The government and engineers can use IoT to analyze the complex factors of town planning, in areas like traffic management, electricity management, water management, waste control, urban safety, and emergencies.

Apart from these IoT can also be used in the fields of education, energy, research, administration, law enforcement, environment, advertisement, building construction, testing, analytics, marketing, fashion, lifestyle, and so on. There are innumerable applications where IoT technology can be used.

I hope this article “Applications Of IoT” may help you all a lot. Thank you for reading.
