Difference Between SSD, HDD, SSHD, Advantages, Disadvantages

Hello Guys, welcome back to my blog. In this article, I will discuss the difference between SSD, HDD, SSHD, or what is a hard disk drive, what is a solid-state drive, what is a solid-state hard drive, the advantages of drives, and the disadvantages of drives.

Difference Between SSD, HDD, SSHD

First, I will tell you all what is the full form of SSD, HDD, and SSHD. SSD stands for Solid State Drive, HDD stands for Hard Disk Drive and SSHD stands for Solid State Hard Drive.

What is a Hard Disk Drive?

Hard Disk Drive is a traditional storage device used to store large amounts of data. HDD is a mechanical device that consists of moving parts. In HDD there will be a moving head that rotates at certain rpm like 4500 rpm. The moving head is called a platter from which the data is accessed.

Now I will discuss some advantages and disadvantages of HDD.

Advantages of HDD Or Hard Disk Drive

  1. Cheap – The cost or amount of Hard Disk Drive is cheap compared to SSD. The cost of 1 TB HDD is around 2,500.
  2. High Storage Capacity – HDD has a high storage capacity compared to SSD. You can easily get 8 TB or 6 TB HDD, but you will not get a high storage capacity of SSD.
  3. Easily Available – HDD is easily available in the market, one can get HDD easily from the market.

Disadvantages Of HDD Or Hard Disk Drive

  1. Wear and Tear Effect – As it is a mechanical device, it consists of moving parts, after some years i.e., 6 years or 5 years HDD parts may become weak.
  2. Damage – While you are carrying a laptop if suddenly a laptop falls from your hand and your laptop consists of HDD, then you may lose your data which is stored in the HDD of your laptop.
  3. Low Speed – The performance of HDD is slow compared to the performance of SSD. If your computer or laptop consists of HDD than your system may take more time to get started.
  4. Power Consumption – As it consists of moving parts and the size of HDD is bulky, the power consumption of HDD is more.

What is a Solid State Drive?

Solid State Drive is also a storage device that is in solid-state and does not consist of any moving parts, solid-state drives are flash-based storage.

Solid State Drive

Now I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of a solid-state drive.

Advantages Of Solid State Drive

  1. High Speed – The speed of the solid-state drive is very fast compared to HDD. If your computer consist of SSD than your computer or laptop will take less time to start.
  2. Impact Resistance – While you are carrying your laptop suddenly it falls from hand then also your data will be safe but in the case of HDD, data will not be safe.
  3. Power Consumption – The power consumption in SSD is very low as compared to the power consumption of HDD.
  4. Life Span – The life span of SSD is more compared to the life span of HDD.

Disadvantages Of Solid State Drive

  1. Cost – The cost of a solid-state drive is more compared to HDD. The laptops which consist of SSD is of more cost compared to the HDD.
  2. Storage Capacity – The storage capacity available in the market for the solid-state drive is less compared to HDD.

What is a Solid State Hard Drive?

Solid State Hard Drive

Solid State Hard Drive is also a storage device. Laptops that consist of SSHD, in that laptop operating system files are stored in SSD, and program life is stored in HDD so that when you turn on the laptop, the laptop will start very quickly. SSHD is a combination of SSD and HDD.

Final Conclusion

I suggest you all take a laptop which consist of SSD because you all know that SSD has many advantages compared to HHD. But the cost of SSD laptop or computer is high compared to the HHD laptops or computers.
