Why Ammeter Is Connected In Series And Voltmeter In Parallel

Hello guys, welcome back to my blog. In this article, I will discuss why ammeter is connected in series and why voltmeter is connected in parallel, I will also discuss what happens if we connect an ammeter in parallel, what happens if we connect a voltmeter in series.

Everything I will try to explain in an easy way. If you want an article on some other topics then comment us below in the comment section. You can also catch me @ Instagram – Click Here.

What Is Ammeter And Voltmeter?

Nowadays ammeters and voltmeters are used in many places such as industries, stations, colleges, etc. The ammeter and voltmeter are measuring devices they are used to measure parameters. The function of ammeter is to measure the current flowing in a circuit and the function of the voltmeter is to measure the voltage between load, or source, etc.

Why Ammeter Is Connected In Series?

The ammeter is used to measure the current flowing through the circuit, so the current should flow properly inside the ammeter to give an accurate result. And the ammeter has low resistance, so it is connected in the series. And one more thing, we use an ammeter to measure the current flowing through the load so ammeter should be connected in series between source and load.

What Happens If Ammeter Is Connected In Parallel?

If we connected an ammeter in parallel, then the current flows through the ammeter because the current choose the bath which has low resistance according to ohm’s law. The whole current starts flowing through the ammeter and the ammeter will not give proper results. And the maximum amount of current flowing through the ammeter causes the fuse to blow or else ammeter may get damaged.

Why Voltmeter Is Connected In Parallel?

The voltmeter is used to measure the potential difference between load or source so it is connected in parallel. We can measure voltage only when the voltmeter is connected parallel. The voltmeter offers high resistance, so it is connected in parallel. By using a voltmeter we are measuring potential differences not current.

What Happens If Voltemter Is Connected In Series?

If a voltmeter is connected in series then it will block the current flowing through the circuit because voltmeter has high resistance, more resistance means more avoiding of current. Thus, if we connected voltage in series the load will not receive any current.
