Explain the effects of Harmonics?

The output voltage control of inverters requires varying both the number of pulses per half-cycle and the pulse widths that are generated by modulating techniques. The output voltage contains even harmonics over a frequency spectrum. Some applications require either a fixed or a variable output voltage, but certain harmonics are undersirable in reducing certain effects such as harmonic torque and heating in motors, interferences, and oscillations.
