Two power system areas A and B are interconnected and have the following characteristics: Area A: Regulation =4% rated capacity=400 MW, Area B: Regulation =6% rated capacity=500 MW Determine the steady-state frequency deviation, generation changes and tie-line power change following a increase of load demand by 50 MW in area B. Assume rated frequency as 50Hz. If another area C with Regulation =3% rated capacity=600 MW is also interconnected, determine the new values of steady-changes. Three thermal generating units are operating in parallel at 50 Hz sharing 750 MW equally and have following rated capacity (Pr) and speed regulation (R) values. Unit 1: Pr=500MW, R=6%; Unit 2: Pr=600MW, R=2.4%; Unit 3: Pr=500Mw, R=4%. Analyze the following situations and comment on the results by comparing the operating frequency and load sharing between the units when supplying a total load demand of (i) 600MW (ii) 1000MW. Also determine the minimum total load demand and the corresponding operating frequency at which the entire load is supplied by only two units. Which unit will run idle under this condition? Assume free governor operation and rated frequency of 50 Hz.

Two power system areas are interconnected and have following regulation (R) and rated power (Pr) values: Area1: R =5%, Pr =1000 MW and Area 2: R =6%, Pr =800 MW. Determine the steady changes in frequency, tie-line powers and generations when the load demand in area-2 increases by 100 MW. Also analyze the effect of connecting another area-3 (R =4%, Pr =500 MW) on the steady changes in frequency, generation and tie-line powers following the same load changes as above. Comment on the results obtained. Assume free governor operation and rated frequency of 50 Hz.

The fuel cost models (in Rs/Hr) of the thermal plants of system shown are: F1=0.025P12+35P1+1500 and F2=0.03P22+34P2+2000. When certain load demand is optimally dispatched, it was found that the optimal generation of plant-1 is 216.115 MW and power loss is 23.3528 MW. Determine the optimal generation of plant 2, cost of received power, total load demand, total fuel cost and penalty factors. Also analyze the effect of not coordinating the transmission loss on total fuel cost and transmission loss when optimally dispatching the same total load demand found above and comment on the results.
