The vehicle speed sensor is typically located at the transmission. The speed sensor can be implemented magnetically or optically. It is used in ABS, speedometer, cruise control system. The ECM(engine control module) uses this information to modify engine functions such as ignition timing, air/fuel ratio, transmission shift points and to initiate diagnostic routines.
