A complete computer on a single chip. This is known as a microcontroller. Some micro-controllers have on-chip data converters, communication technologies and high end algorithms. 

  1. The 8051 has no on-chip ADC.
  2. The Atmega series has a 10-bit On-chip ADC.
  3. The TI series have 12 bit on-chip ADC.
  4. DSP are specialized processors that run or support several algorithms and make control task easier for a programmer.
