The advantages of squirrel cage induction motors are:

  1. It is cheap, rugged, reliable, and longer-lasting.
  2. Don’t require maintenance, can be operated in an explosive and contaminated environment, and can be designed for higher speeds, voltage, and power ratings.
  3. It has a lower inertia, volume, and weight.
  4. The price of squirrel cage induction motor is much lower compared to that of a dc motor of the same rating, variable frequency induction motor drives are preferred over dc motor drives.
