The steps to be followed for the selection of size and number of generators units are:

  1. Generators must be run at rated load to give maximum efficiency.
  2. It is uneconomical to run Generator set under low load conditions as fuel consumption would be more.
  3. It is not economical to run using a single unit to supply the whole of the load.

Drawbacks

  1. With an increased number of sets the floor area building cost maintenance cost increases.
  2. The capital costs will be higher.
